![]() Unreason darkens that gap of time bridged by our lightspeed ships, and in the darkness uncertainty and disproportion grow like weeds. ![]() ![]() How can you tell the legend from the fact on these worlds that lie so many years away? - planets without names, called by their people simply The World, planets without history, where the past is the matter of myth, and a returning explorer finds his own doings of a few years back have become the gestures of a god. I am still a romantic, no doubt about that, and glad of it, but the candor and simplicity of "Semley's Necklace" have gradually become something harder, stronger, and more complex. The progress of my style has been away from open romanticism, slowly and steadily, from this story to the last one in the volume, written in 1972. ![]() ![]() This story, written in 1963, published as "Dowry of the Angyar"in 1964 and as the Prologue of my first novel, Rocannon's World, in 1966, was actually the eighth story I got printed but it opens the book because I think it's the most characteristic of my early science fiction and fantasy works, the most romantic of them all. ![]() 6/30/2023 0 Comments Lean in facebook sheryl sandberg![]() ![]() as her colleagues continued working to see her young children before they went to sleep - with Zuckerberg’s support.Īs Facebook became the world’s dominant social media platform with nearly 3 billion users, Sandberg and Zuckerberg faced daunting challenges. In Wednesday’s post, Sandberg remembered having to leave Facebook’s office at 5:30 p.m. The New York Times best seller sold over 4 million copies, but in the following years it was criticized for placing too much pressure on individual women and not calling for greater societal change. ![]() She wrote about the challenges of being a working mother in the 2013 book “Lean In,” calling on women to choose both having a career and taking care of children. As Facebook grew to become a $500 billion company, Sandberg became one of the most influential women in tech. A former Google executive, Sandberg joined Facebook in 2008, four years after it was created, bringing more corporate and advertising experience to the startup during its meteoric rise. ![]() 6/30/2023 0 Comments Till we have faces book![]() ![]() ![]() It is possible to read his fiction simply for the story and still be satisfied, but I think you're missing the point. Non-fiction, literary criticism, memoir, children's literature, science fiction, myth-he wrote it all and he wrote it all well. A man of soaring intellect and a man of deep faith, he wrote in a way that challenges the mind. Lewis was, and still is, a towering figure. Maybe I'll begin reading with only my eyes and forget all that this book has given me.Ĭ.S. How do explain what this book does for me, heart, soul, and mind? How do I explain that I have other favorites that I will turn to like familiar friends, but I avoid reading Till We Have Faces often? I'm not afraid that familiarity will breed contempt, but, perhaps, complacency. I have a favorite ice cream, a favorite color, but books-particularly this book-are so much more to me. ![]() ![]() Even the word “favorite” does it a disservice. And yet, anything I say to explain it falls short. Lewis is a favorite author of mine, and Till We Have Faces is, bar none, the best book I've ever read. We read my favorite book of all time for book club, and how could I do it justice? C.S. Last month, I faced what I believed to be an impossible task. ![]() 6/30/2023 0 Comments Stellarlune release date![]() ![]() ![]() Silence followed, and Grady wouldn’t meet her eyes. If you knew what he’s planning, you wouldn’t be saying that. Keefe will be fine, Grady promised, carefully steering her away from her doorway. ![]() Even she wasn’t sure if she wanted to clobber Keefe, lock him up somewhere, or wrap him in a huge strangle-hug and tell him everything was going to be okay-though the last option seemed the least likely. Is Sandor still outside? she asked, hoping he’d gotten a report about Keefe from one of the other guards. ![]() Sandor was in the process of frantically amping up Havenfield’s security because she’d burned down one of the Neverseen’s storehouses a few hours earlier, and everyone seemed to think that meant she’d officially started the war they’d been teetering on the brink of for years-but she couldn’t worry about that at the moment. I didn’t see him-but I was out in the pastures, waiting for the new patrols to arrive. How long ago did Keefe leave? she asked, glancing between Grady and the tiny gnome standing near her canopied bed.įlori shook her head, making her plaited hair rustle like windblown leaves. All she could do was stare at the crumpled note she’d found waiting for her in her bedroom, hoping she’d somehow misread it.Ī sound bubbled up her throat, something between a laugh, a cry, and a groan.
